Tales the Tombstones Tell
My apology to readers who are expecting to read in today’s Chronicles, with bated breath, I’m sure, the conclusion to the two-part biography of BC’s most outlandish politician, Joseph Martin.
When I began writing his story I fully expected it to be a one-off. But the more I researched, the more I wrote, the bigger it became. (Just the way it was with Joe Martin in real life.) Thus, I—we—ended up with a two-parter, which was to be concluded in this edition.
But this totally upset my publishing schedule. A Halloween ghost story is an annual event—a must—here at the Chronicles, as are Remembrance Day and Christmas. What to do?
Fortunately, one of the joys of being Editor is the right to change one’s mind in mid-stream and to, as Leacock put it, gallop madly off in all directions. Which is to say that I’ve decided to sneak in a Halloween ghost story and finish Mr. Martin’s saga next week. This will put the Chronicles back on track in time for Remembrance Day.
So, begging everyone’s indulgence, here’s this year’s peek into the nether-world of ghosts, spirits, apparitions, wraiths or whatever one chooses to call them.
